Applications of the CHIANTI database

Last revised by G. Del Zanna on 20 Sept 2003

CHIANTI is being used for a large variety of purposes, from calibration to line identifications and plasma diagnostics. Here, a few examples are given. Follow the links to the papers to know more.

Assessment of atomic physics calculations and line identifications

Instrument calibration

CHIANTI has been used for the in-flight calibration/assessment of various EUV instruments and detectors. For a general description of the method, see:
The use of Atomic Data for the in-flight calibration of the CDS Spectrometers. .
Del Zanna (2002), The Radiometric Calibration of SOHO, ISSI Scientific Report, in press.

For a general overview of the various applications, read:

Mason et al (2002), The Radiometric Calibration of SOHO, ISSI Scientific Report, in press.

Temperatures and Emission Measures from EUV broad-band filter ratios

CHIANTI has been used to derive Temperatures and Emission Measures with the filter ratio technique applied to SOHO/EIT, TRACE, YOHKOH/SXT.

Plasma Diagnostics

CHIANTI has been widely used for astrophysical plasma diagnostic purposes. Go to the links to the ADS citations to CHIANTI to find out more.
